People for People has now received 1.300 help requests in just two weeks time. Here’s what has happened last week to further help refugees leaving Russia and Ukraine:
10 refugees are now employed in The Netherlands
About 80% of incoming requests to the foundation are for employment requests. 10 people have now been hired via Highly Skilled Migrant visas, so they can now live and work in The Netherlands.
Suitcases for those fleeing to Poland
As more and more people flee to neighboring countries, they are being told that there is room for suitcases on the trains leaving the country. Most refugees leaving for Poland have arrived with plastic bags or very small backpacks, so we supported them by donating new suitcases to families.
Picnic ‘Samen in Actie’ campaign
Our partner Picnic now allows customers to order 4 types of packages that contain products most needed by people in the Ukraine and in refugee camps. Once at checkout, shoppers can add a package to their shopping basket and have it delivered to the Ukraine border. The exact containments will be determined based on what’s most needed.
In the first 72 hours of launch, the Picnic community has already donated over €100.000 and supplied the following:
- 600 sleeping bags
2 full trucks of goods already shipped to Ukraine
Transportation from Solotvino into Ukrainian cities
Local Ukraine contacts and logistics have now been organized, so the foundation can ship even more goods and supplies to those who need them.
€10.000 donation to bring medical supplies to Chernihiv
More Dutch and Ukrainians have teamed up to get relief supplies to the area. IT entrepreneur, Arnoud Wijnands of Team4Code, asks for support for humanitarian aid in Ukraine. His office in Kyiv has been shut down since the war, since his employees have had to leave to defend their country, hide in bomb shelters and volunteer to distribute food and medications.
There is now a very concrete need for medical supplies for a team that has evacuated a children’s hospital in Chernihiv, a city located near the border of Belarus. They want to return to Chernihiv, which is currently being heavily bombed by Russian forces.
To help support his initiative, People for People has donated €10.000 to help Arnoud get supplies to the people in Chernihiv.
